Dad,

There aren’t enough words to describe the character you are, such a loving, caring, thoughtful and patient man. You were an amazingly talented & kind-hearted soul.

You always put the needs of others, especially your family, well before yourself, ever so eager to help out…especially if there were tools involved and something needed building from scratch or fixing something broken, you were always there in a flash….tool belt at the ready, on with the hat and overalls and getting stuck into it before anybody even had a chance to refuse you’re offer…“Let’s do it. It just needs to be done.”

This of course usually involved any number of the Grandkids in tow…..also wearing one of “Grandad’s hats” and carrying all your tools from the shed all over the yard just in case you needed them, following you up and down the ladder, riding in the wheelbarrow and all this work tied in with some quick games of hide and seek, chasey around the yard or you pushing the kids in the small wooden cart built by yourself around the concrete paths and cutting corners across the grass, kids giggling and laughing their heads off to the driving antics of Noel “Brabham” Bowen, all taking place around the beautiful home and garden you created.

None of life’s challenges could ever alter your beautiful nature. Nobody could ever ask for a better father, husband, Grandfather, Great Grandfather or even just that friend to talk to.
You are the true meaning of the word “Gentleman”.

You only have to look at the number of faces in this room and the tributes sent to the family since your passing to begin to understand the realisation of just how many hearts you’ve touched throughout the years.

It’s the spirit and admiration for you that will live on in the hearts of so many family and friends.
First and foremost was his love and commitment for our Mother Margaret. And it wasn’t just the marital commitment, it was your commitment to making her “HAPPY”. If it was important to her, it was important to him. You were mums “Rock”, 64 years of loving memories caring for her and your family, and even during his last days, his only concern was for Mum’s wellbeing.

Mum along with your family and friends have been left with a gaping hole in their hearts, left to ponder how we can ever go on without you. Thankfully with the strong family bonds created by you we will all pull closely together and find our way through, forever remembering what a privilege it is to have known you, and we will soon realise that such a beautiful soul like you only comes along once in a lifetime.

We will miss his chats over many cups of tea, his cheeky smile.

We will miss your love of the birds who came to visit your beautiful homemade sanctuary.

Our mother will miss having her best friend by her side.

We will miss all the fresh vegetables, fruit and nuts you grew around the yard.

We will miss sitting down to a family feast created by Mum with all the fruits of your hard labour….Mum calling you in from the yard or shed when it was ready and you walking in with a tribe of kids following behind you…..all following their leader, all wanting to sit next to “Grandad”…….all taking their hats of at the table as soon as you did…….and when any pesky fly dared to sit on anyone’s food, the perfect timing of you and the grandkids all picking up their hats in perfect motion and whacking the table to get rid of it.

Wherever your next voyage takes you we know you will make the most of it.

All the gardens there, the timber furniture, the painting required, the vegetable patch…whatever it requires it will have never looked so beautiful now that Noel Bowen is there.

So, its farewell for now Dad, until we meet again, please don’t forget your “HAT”.

We will forever Love and Miss You.
